Opportunity Snapshot
In this newly created role you will have the opportunity to build an extensive and multiplex information security program virtually from scratch. You'll showcase your technical expertise, creativity and leadership skills as you assess our operations, identify the risks, and recommend and implement plans to mitigate risks in all ten domains of information security -- and you'll do so across diverse operations throughout the US with some 24,000 employees in scope. In the process you'll support The MENTOR Network's mission of providing people with innovative, quality services and supports that lead to growth and independence.
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have a current CISSP and solid experience managing an information security (IS) program, including managing projects of significant scope. We're looking for a professional with broad experience in most if not all domains of IS, and the ideal candidate will have experience building a program from scratch. Just as important as your technical savvy will be a consultative approach and a demonstrated ability to influence and persuade people to embrace policy and process changes. Supervisory and/or managerial experience is a plus, although this role will have no direct reports in the near term.
Founded in 1980, The MENTOR Network is a national network of local human services providers offering an array of quality, community-based services to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, acquired brain injury and other catastrophic injuries and illnesses, and to youth with emotional, behavioral and medically complex challenges as well as their families. Our strategy of marrying our mission and values with business discipline and capital creation is unique, enabling the organization to invest in systems that make excellence possible -- and we apply those systems in a way that directly benefits people with a range of needs, with impressive results.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
A bachelor's degree in Business or a computer related field.
Experience managing external and internal reviews by regulatory and audit organizations.
Extensive knowledge and experience with: network security, firewalls, intrusion detection, encryption techniques, monitoring systems, information protection standards, access control methods, database security, incident handling & response, disaster recovery, threat management and various regulatory security mandates such as HIPPA and SOX.
Experience designing control and technical methods that allow for continuous monitoring of the security environment.
Experience designing and implementing an education and awareness program.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
What's in It for You
Career opportunities -- the initiative you'll lead is a major corporate priority, so not only will you enjoy support from the top, but your successes will be noticed. As The MENTOR Network continues to grow, we are always looking for proven leaders to step up.
Great environment -- the core competency of The MENTOR Network is helping people flourish and grow. We apply that competency in our corporate culture as well, promoting a growth-oriented, creative environment peopled by creative thinkers with varying perspectives whose one common trait is a commitment to our mission. You'll find a strong sense of teamwork in a collegial, positive atmosphere.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes all you would expect.
More About Your Role
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.
Reporting to the IT Director, you will assume responsibility for leading the initiative to develop and implement a comprehensive information security (IS) program. You'll interact and partner with people throughout our organization. As we look to continuously develop our information security program, you will be charged to take a blank slate approach to evaluate the best program for our environment. Your task will be to assess information security risks and determine appropriate ways to mitigate those risks, develop a strategy for risk management on an ongoing basis and implement information security projects.
Your specific activities will include gathering data, meeting with users and other stakeholders, conducting assessments and audits, developing policies and procedures, developing and delivering training and educational programs, overseeing the design and implementation of technical tools, and more.
Keys to Success
To excel in this role you will "sell" the new initiative via influence and motivation, helping operations staff see the benefits of embracing policies and solutions. A rule-bound approach will not work in our culture. You also will need to help the organization find the right balance between security and operational effectiveness, providing insights to decision makers regarding acceptable risks. In addition, as the single professional dedicated to IS (although the program might grow), you'll need to be energetic and creative about achieving goals with the resources at hand.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
Who We Are
The MENTOR Network is one of shared values and resources, an organization offering those who work with us and those we serve the benefits of a strong national structure. Tying The Network together is a well-defined set of policies, procedures and quality standards that create a level of support and consistency unavailable elsewhere.
